There's one thing I can say about this recession ... it definitely makes you much more creative while shopping. If you been keeping up with my tweets (hopefully they're sync-ed to this blog) then you probably already know I planned on making pork ribs for this past Sunday dinner which thanks to Food Lion I purchased for TWO DOLLARS last week and had them in the freezer. Sunday evening the girlfriend (who doesn't cook) and I went over a friends house and ate a healthy dinner of pork loin, rice and peas. Pork again today just felt like an overkill so to the grocery store I go. Up and down the aisle I frantically search for the most ECONOMIC deals the store has to offer. Roughly 45 minutes later Ive decided .....
- Hamburger buns 1.19
- Manwich sloppy joe 1.00
- Zatarins red beans & rice 1.50
- sliced carrots .89
- french cut green beans .79
- GrillMates mesquite marinade .80
Sloppy joe it is for tonight along with sweet corn and tomorrow a full meal fit for Sunday dinner.
TIPs OF THE DAY: If you ever find yourself a little short on the allotted pound of meat for sloppy joes don't worry use what you have and set out the heels of a a loaf of bread to dry out while you prepare the meat (quicken the process by toasting them lightly) and use a rolling pin and crush bread to make bread crumbs and add to mixture when complete to thicken.
